How much do you earn per hour as a Federal Work-Study student?

All work-study positions pay $15 per hour, and students may work up to a maximum of 20 hours per week (30 hours during University-scheduled breaks), depending on the student’s financial aid budget allowance.  All earnings are taxed.

How do I know if I am eligible to participate in the Student Employment Program?

If you have submitted a FAFSA and are eligible, you will be offered Federal Work Study (FWS) on your initial financial aid package in Adler Connect Financial Aid Self-Service. If you do not see Federal Work Study on your financial aid package and would like to apply for a Student Employment Program position, contact the Financial Aid Office

I have Federal Work Study listed on my financial aid package. Am I guaranteed a job?

The Student Employment Program is not a job placement program. It is up to you to find a job and get hired, just like any other job. Our office posts available job openings below when Adler and community partner employers notify us of available positions, but we are not able to control what jobs are available or when they are made available. If you are interested in working for a specific department and they do not have positions available, contact them directly to inquire.

How do I find a job?

You may apply for the open positions listed below according to their application instructions. Contact the Supervisor and/or Hiring Manager listed in the position posting if you have any questions about the position or the application process.

Can I get an outside job or continue working with my existing employer and not use my Federal Work Study award?

Yes, if you don’t plan to use your Federal Work Study award, decline it in Adler Connect Financial Aid Self-Service. Not using your work-study award will not change your eligibility for the award this year or in the future, should your plans change.

I’m not eligible for Federal Work Study, can I still qualify for Student Employment Program position?

The University has a limited pool of funds that can be used to fund a Student Employment Program position for students who are not eligible for Federal Work Study. However, if you are hired for a Student Employment Program position and the Financial Aid Office determines that you may be eligible to complete the FAFSA but you haven’t yet done so, you will not be able to complete the new hire process for your position until the FAFSA is submitted. This is because Federal Work Study is the first source of funding for Student Employment Program positions.

If you are not eligible for Federal Work Study and the University is not able to fund your position with institutional funding but you are interested in a certain job, you may contact your department of interest to ask whether they provide jobs outside of the Student Employment Program. In that case, the department would need to cover all of your wages as a regular part-time employee at 100%. For this reason, the vast majority of student employment positions at Adler are funded through the Student Employment Program as it provides a federally funded wage subsidy and dedicated institutional funding that allows Adler departments and community partner employers to provide employment opportunities to students.

What if I work more hours in a week than my supervisor listed on my Student Employment Authorization Form?

If you work more hours in a given week than you were approved for, please notify the Financial Aid Office as this may impact your financial aid package. If this happens consistently and you have received a substantial refund check from student loans or other aid, you may be required to return a portion of the refund that was issued to you.

What if I want to leave my current position and/or wish to start a different position?

If you want to leave your current position, we ask that you give your Supervisor two weeks’ notice. You must also contact the Financial Aid Office to alert us and for additional guidance on next steps if you leave your current position or wish to start a different position.

I am in a doctoral program and will be starting my internship and/or dissertation. Can I also apply for a Student Employment Program job?

We strongly recommend that you speak with your academic advisor about your plans before applying for any Student Employment Program positions.
